As the Director of a tissue bank Jim's innovative focus, business skills and extensive knowledge transformed a dysfunctional transplantation program into the Canadian leader in its field. With a business model focused on quality and revenue generation, Jim was instrumental in turning the program around. An unsurpassed commitment to customer service helped support the rapid, sustained growth that elevated the program to a national level.
Certified as a Tissue Bank Specialist and holding a Masters in Business Administration Jim is recognized as a Canadian leader in tissue banking, transplantation and the application of business models and quality systems. His leadership as the past Chair of the Canadian Council on Donation and Transplantation Tissue Banking Committee established the foundation for sustainability in tissue banking and transplantation in Canada.
As a member of the Canadian Standards Association Expert Working Group on the Safety of Cells, Organs and Tissues for Transplantation and member of the Public Health Agency of Canada Expert Working Group on the Surveillance of Adverse Outcomes in Cell, Organ and Tissue Transplantation he provided leadership and direction enhancing the safety of cells, tissues and organs in Canada. Jim maintains his international involvement through the American Association of Tissue Banks and through his many presentations in other countries.
Jim has obtained 6-Sigma Quality Champion certification and has been recognized for his leadership in quality with the National 3M Quality Award for Innovation in Health Care in relation to his work in the establishment of a provincial organ and tissue donation program.
